The Preschool LRE Community of Practice is no longer an active community and is not accepting new members. As of July 30, 2010, the community will not have an active presence. Thank you for your support and participation!

HISTORY & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The community was originally formed in 2003 by the Office of Special Education Programs in the US Department of Education. The purpose was to serve as a mechanism for communication and networking  among states to support the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) and promote early childhood inclusion practices.

Since its inception, the Preschool LRE Community sponsored or co-sponsored:

  • Networking meetings and conference calls among Section 619 Coordinators and state staff
  • Online practice groups around specific content areas
  • A national meeting in May 2004
  • State Expanding Opportunities Interagency Teams and strategic planning activities
